HBO’s new trailer for The Last of Us season 2 hints at even more intense and traumatic events to come. New threats — both human and in cordyceps-virus-zombie form — will upend Joel and Ellie’s relatively peaceful existence in Jackson, Wyoming — but just how far the show will go in adapting the events of The Last of Us Part 2, the video game from Naughty Dog, remains to be seen. Viewers may want to book a session with their own therapist in advance of the show’s 2025 finale, just in case.
In addition to an extended look at Catherine O’Hara as Joel’s confidant, we get a longer look at a grown-up Ellie and her partner Dina; a brief tease of new antagonist Abby; and a foreboding glimpse at Jeffrey Wright reprising his role as Isaac from the video game.
Season 2’s cast includes returning stars Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, and Rutina Wesley as Maria. New to the cast are Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny, Jeffrey Wright as Isaac, and Catherine O’Hara.
The Last of Us season 2 will premiere on HBO in 2025 and will stream on Max.
